Overview
South Asia, comprising 25% of the world’s population, boasts a rich cultural heritage and vibrant art practices. These traditions have manifested in various commercial outputs, including art, design, crafts, architecture, music, movies, and mixed media. However, understanding these creative markets' status and entrepreneurial opportunities remains challenging. This series aims to interrogate arts and cultural entrepreneurship in South Asia to explain, theorize, and comprehend how entrepreneurial spirits find and animate market opportunities in the creative economy of the region.

Themes
We are seeking original research, case studies, and comprehensive reviews on topics including, but not limited to:

  • New approaches to cultural economics and entrepreneurship, enabling shared goods and commons
  • Case studies of how cultural and creative enterprises scale and/or fail
  • Theoretical perspectives on the convergence of economics, entrepreneurship, and creative economy
  • Private or public sector approaches and interventions that help build entrepreneurial capacities in the creative economy.

"South Asia" here is defined by membership in the the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), which includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
